Taiwan in more danger?

Is Taiwan in more danger now that the U.S. and Japan have issued a security statement defining Taiwan as a "common strategic objective"? Tom Plate believes so. I am inclined to agree with him, and with his view that the West should back off volunteering statements about Taiwan. The last thing we need is to give the hawks in Beijing more ammunition for their designs to regain control of the island by force.
